Course Overview

Computer Literacy

Computer Literacy: is a beginners course designed to prepare an individual (interested in operating the computer) about the procedures and concept of successfully using the computer.

Duration:
Days: Mondays and Wednesdays
Times Available: 3:00pm - 4:30pm or 4:30pm - 6:00pm


Course Outline:
Define and identify a Computer
Define Hardware
Understanding the function performed by devices and be able to use each
Define Software
State the categories of software and understand the operation of software in the processing of
        information
Parts of an application window
What is information storage, storage devices.
What is RAM, ROM.
Define Windows.
Draw and label a diskette, keyboard, mouse, CPU,  monitor, printer, finger placement.
Define the following categories of devices: input, output and peripheral.
Understand the following functions and operation of the computer: shutting down, starting-up, saving a file, updating a file, printing a file, page setup, inserting tables, copy, paste, cut, italics, bold, underline, align data on a page, font size, font colour, font style, spell and grammer check, scan an image, insert object into document, numbering, bullets, indent, undo, redo, change case, Format a disk, copy a file, rename a file, sorting a list of data, open a file, check file for virus and setting the system's date and time.
State the basic Computer System Generation Scheme- 82, 286, 386, and upwards.
Basic operation of the following applications: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, MS Paint, Internet Explorer- (Accessing the Internet).
Introduction to TYPING - Speed, Accuracy and Finger Location.
